On the “Unravel Remix EP”, out 17th July, San Francisco 7-piece The Seshen unveil six stunning reworks of tracks from 2014’s “Unravel” EP which gained widespread support from Lauren Laverne, Tom Ravenscroft, Don Letts, Nemone, THUMP, Line Of Best Fit, Afropunk and many more tastemakers around the world. The buzz surrounding their debut EP on Tru Thoughts added to their high demand as a live act, with major bookings including official SXSW showcases and support for tUnE-yArDs, Thundercat and Haiyatus Kaiyote.
Mixing live and electronic elements, The Seshen create beat-driven compositions with a strong emotional core, with an experimental approach that makes for a compellingly creative experience both live and on record. Here, their hook-laden songs - fusing influences from psychedelia, hip-hop, pop, R&B, West African music, dub and indie rock - retain their innate beauty and lyricism while being spun out in exciting new directions by Lost Midas, AKDK, Astronauts, Etc., Jonny Faith and Uhuru Peak as well as the band’s very own synchronizer/sampler wizard Kumar Butler.
Providing the immersive backdrop for the two complementary vocalists, Lalin St Juste and Akasha Orr, are bassist/producer Aki Ehara, drummer Chris Thalmann, keyboard/synth player Mahesh Rao, percussionist Mirza Kopelman and synchronizer/sampler Kumar Butler. Manipulating an array of technology alongside more traditional instruments and acoustic percussion, they complement Lalin and Akasha’s vivid poetic imagery with heavily layered electronic textures for a heady atmosphere that blurs the distinction between the abstract and the familiar.
